Ski insurance policies for skiers and snowboarders in Andorra

Overview

Pal is a quiet and picturesque village oftenoverlooked in favour of its better known neighbour, Arinsal which shares a lift pass. High altitude, north-facing slopes andsuperb snow-making facilities optimise good conditions when temperatures are low enough and a long season. There are 4 different ‘base stations’.

Profile

Pal is very near the principality’s capital, La Vella. It is often overlooked in favour of it¹s better known neighbour, Arinsal (5km away) and the 2 villages share a lift pass. High altitude, north-facing slopes and superb snow-making facilities optimise good conditions when temperatures are low enough and a long season. The ski area is situated in a heavily wooded area, a short bus trip away from the village. There are 4 different ‘base stations’ all accessible by the road and all interlinked by lifts. This spread out system means that crowds are dispersed and queues are very rare. Mid week the slopes are often deserted but do get busier at weekends when local skiers arrive.

Mountain Information

The skiing is best suited to beginners and intermediates. Beginners will benefit from the friendly guidance offered by the local ski instructors on the gentle slopes of La Caubell. Progress can then be made higher up at the top station - Pi de Cubil, where a number of interesting blue and reds descend allowing access to all four base stations. This is not the ideal resort for the very advanced skier, although there is excellent off-piste skiing amongst the trees. Pal is not very boarder-friendly- with an emphasis on drag-lifts and very few chairlifts. However a brand new cable-car linking Pal to Arinsal is open this winter and snowboarders will find a Half Pipe, Fun park and a six-man gondola over the hill in Arindal.

Apres Ski

Accommodation in Pal is mostly hotels and because few UK tour operators go there directly, arrangements are best made independently. Pal is very quiet at night. There are several Spanish/ French restaurants, but for those looking for something more lively, Arinsal and nearby La Massana are the places to go for bars and clubs. Off the slope activity includes swimming, riding and tennis. The nearby Roman Spa baths ‘Caldea Water Spa’ is an interesting excursion and Andorra’s capital, La Vella is a short coach trip.
