Overview

Set amongst pristine forests in the heart of the majestic summits of the Vaud Alps lays Les Diablerets, a small but pretty Swiss mountain village that is quiet and retains its traditional feel. A well established resort with excellent facilities for families, Les Diablerets is situated under its own imposing glacier at 3000 feet amid spectacular scenery. The skiing is mainly for beginners and intermediates although there are some excellent off piste opportunities for experts. The resort is particularly family friendly with some fantastic childcare facilities.

Profile

Les Diablerets, which translates into The Little Devils, is named after the surrounding mountain summits into which it nestles. The chalet style resort is spacious and unspoilt with plentiful and varied accommodation both on and off the slopes to suit all tastes and budgets. Ski schools are friendly, helpful and patient with snow sure slopes; nightlife is based around the restaurants and is quiet during the week, livening up at the weekends. Because of this, the resort is favoured by families; childcare is available from the Kindergarten and there is a babysitting service to allow parents some well deserved time on their own.

Mountain Information

With 65 kilometres of downhill terrain, 25 kilometres of which is on the glacier, Les Diablerets has 26 slopes suitable for beginner and intermediate skiers and snow boarders. There are three ski schools, one of which is a snowboarding school, all of which offer English speaking instructors and the nursery slopes are close to the village. The mountain has 24 ski lifts, including 3 cable cars, which ensures queues are rare. Advanced skiers and boarders will benefit from hiring a local guide to take them exploring off piste to enjoy some exhilarating snow. The glacier provides excellent skiing conditions all year round and it is very popular in the summer with snowboarders; there are three half pipes located within a large snow park.

Apres Ski

Les Diablerets has a few attractions to offer; a fantastic Alpine Garden, a museum and a gallery exhibiting art and craft works of the locals. The beautiful landscape has 30 kilometres of walking trails on which to go and explore the surroundings and 30 km of cross country trails, one kilometre of which is illuminated. A lazier sightseeing opportunity is by horse drawn sled which is delightful.

Other popular activities include tobogganing, an indoor ice rink with curling facilities, a gym with sauna and steam room, a swimming pool and a natural outdoor ice rink. The resort has many shops in which to browse and from where equipment may be hired. There are a few excellent traditional restaurants and bars, which tend to be reasonably quiet during the week but become livelier at weekends.
