Mount Snow is a huge ski resort located in southern Vermont. With excellent ski tuition and childcare facilities, it is a family friendly location and children under the age of six can ski for free. Plenty of beginner and intermediate runs and a fair amount of advanced and expert runs mean there is enough to keep all ages and abilities satisfied. There are a wide range of lodgings for all budgets and tastes and après ski is lively and varied. For a change of scenery, Mount Snow is linked by shuttle bus to Haystack resort which is two kilometres away and there you will find six lifts offering a further 44 runs. The ski season at Mount Snow runs from November to April and there are cheaper rates before Christmas and at the end of the skiing year.
Mount Snow is a well established resort which is one of the largest in New England. It is perfect for the beginners as there is an excellent ski school which caters for all ages; it is therefore a fantastic destination for the family groups and can accommodate varying abilities. However, it is not a particularly good place to show off if you are an expert as there are only a few black runs. The simplest way of getting to the resort is to fly to Albany, New York and take the shuttle bus to Mount Snow.
Mount Snow resort extends over five mountain peaks which cover a huge 80 kilometre ski area. Of the 145 slopes, 23 are suitable for beginners and are low level runs. The 90 intermediate runs are concentrated in the main on the mid mountain section and are the more attractive, being tree lined. There are 29 runs for advanced skiers but only 3 runs suitable for experts. However, some challenging off piste runs, which are some of New England’s sheerest drops, more than make up for this discrepancy. The slopes are served by 23 very efficient lifts, which ensures that queuing is kept to a minimum: even during busy periods the maximum waiting time is only a few minutes.
Mount Snow offers a spa and extensive fitness facilities, including a gym. Activities include snowmobiling, dog-sledding, sleigh riding, cross country and snowshoe trails. There is an impressive selection of shops, museums, bars and restaurants which provide lively evening entertainment. For families, there is a fully staffed childcare centre so Mum and Dad can enjoy some well deserved time together. Away from the resort, the university town of Manchester is a short drive away and has plenty of sightseeing opportunities to make any day excursion interesting for all ages.
