low cost ski cover for Austria

Overview

A popular skiing resort 30 years ago and set in Austria’s Ratikon Mountains, Brand — Nagelberg is a very small resort with only 36km of pistes. The slopes are mainly aimed at beginners and intermediates with few challenges for better skiers. Accommodation is generally in small, friendly family run guesthouses, although some accommodation is also available in hotels which have the advantage of having their own facilities. Brand Nagelberg is surprisingly good value for Austria and has excellent learner pistes, making it an ideal location for families.

Profile

With breathtaking scenery, the traditional picture postcard resort of Brand — Nagleberg is particularly family friendly and very relaxed. The majority of the locals speak good English and the ski schools are excellent, with patient, friendly instructors. This is a great resort for a family ski holiday and if you are prepared to wander off piste, you can grab some serious skiing and boarding. Children are well catered for here; there are two ski schools, a kindergarten, horse riding and an animal farm to keep them occupied whilst mum and dad brush up on their skiing skills.

Mountain Information

Over 50 % of the runs at Brand Nagelberg are for beginners, the majority of the remainder being suitable for intermediates with a few runs for the experts. The two ski schools, one of which incorporates a snowboarding academy, are located near the nursery slopes which are easily accessible and are well groomed. Providing there is sufficient snow, the well linked runs down the mountain offer some attractive tree runs down to the village. Snowboarders and cross country enthusiasts are not forgotten; there are designated snow boarding areas for all abilities and a half pipe and 25 kilometres of cross country trails. Brand — Nagelberg also has a 3 kilometre long toboggan run.

Apres Ski

Après ski in Brand — Nagelberg is limited with a few bars and restaurants offering traditional Austrian fare. The choice is not great and veggies will struggle here. Night life is hardly exciting, but what there is is lively and varied; however, it is worth noting that the Austrians are not known for their grasp on modern music! There is a weekend two lane bowling alley in the west end of the village and a climbing school and indoor riding school. For those aches and pains, there is an excellent spa facility here offering a Jacuzzi, sauna, solarium and health and beauty treatments. There is a regular shuttle bus to the nearest town of Bludenz where the best shopping can be found. Bludenz is also the home of Suchard Chocolate and its well worth taking the time to take a tour of the factory and have a sample or two!
