Rauris is a charming traditional Austrian village situated in Salzburgerland in the heart of the Hohe Tauern National park- the home of Austria¹s highest mountains. Rauris is the perfect resort for beginners, but more competent skiers may find it limited.

Rauris is a charming traditional Austrian village situated in Salzburgerland in the heart of the Hohe Tauern National park- the home of Austria’s highest mountains. Ideally located, it is a 1.5 hr transfer time from the nearest airport- Salzburg and its neighbours are Kaprun and Zell am See. Rauris is the perfect resort for beginners, but more competent skiers may find it limited.
Mountain Information
The ski area is pretty and compact, with 11 different runs- the longest being 2.5km. The ski area is located on the north facing side of the valley, the runs stretching all the way down tinto the town centre, allowing the possibility to ski to the door of the hotels. There are some nursery slopes situated next to the main lift station and more can be found higher up in the Hochalm area. Intermediate skiers can take advantage of the various runs descending to the village from the Kreuzboden and Waldalm areas, but there is only one black run for advanced skiers. Beginner snowboarders will enjoy Rauris, but competent boarders may find it restrictive. There is, however some good off-piste, but no Fun Park or Half Pipe.
Apres Ski
Rauris is attractive with accomodation found mainly in traditional hotels and guesthouses. It is a good place to bring children- there is a ski school with a special ‘ski school fun train’ and numerous activities are laid on by the resort. There are a number of good restaurants offering traditional Austrian dishes and a wide choice of bars ranging from the open-air ‘umbrella bars’ to the cosy cellar bars beneath the gasthofs. There is also the Raurus Schnapps distillery. Curling, night tobogganing and sleigh rides are available and there are several shops and supermarkets.
