Pettneu is a village a few kilometres further down the valley from St Anton which offers a more affordable base and a few beginners runs, and is good for self sufficient skiers and snowboarders with their own transport. Zurs is only a short bus trip round the valley from St Anton and at 1720m has a good snow keeping record. It is a small quiet exclusive village with many 3,4 and 5 star hotels where the hideaway luxury is less ostentacious. Known for its royal patronage the skiing is fairly undemanding and the lift systems not the most up to date.
Passionate skiers will be delighted to find Pettneu situated only a few km from the world-famous Arlberg ski arena featuring 85 lifts and 260 km of groomed slopes. A free ski bus to St. Anton/Arlberg (5 km) leaves every 30 minutes. For those who want their ski experience a bit quieter, Pettneu offers a small, family-friendly ski area with 15 km of slopes and snowboard park. For good apres ski St Anton a few km away has it all. In pettnau itself there is a good indoor swimming pool.
